Privacy Policy

Summary

This website (www.vlsc.net) is an informational site with no user accounts, no login, and no newsletter. The one place you can write to us is the feedback widget at the bottom of every page, which accepts comments only from verified amateur-radio callsigns (see Feedback comments below). Beyond that we collect almost nothing about you — everything else is standard web-server operation.

What this site does not collect

• No accounts and no login — nothing on this site requires registration or a password. The feedback widget asks only for a callsign and a comment; it creates no account and builds no profile of you.
• No tracking cookies of our own — this site sets no cookie of its own: no account cookie, no session cookie, no advertising cookie, and the feedback widget sets none either. The only first-party cookies here are the ones Google Analytics sets, which any content blocker can stop.
• No selling or sharing — nothing this site collects (server logs or feedback comments) is sold or shared with third parties.

Server logs

The web server (nginx) records standard access logs: the request IP address, the page requested, the HTTP user-agent string, and timestamps. This is normal operation for any web server and is used for security (detecting abuse), diagnostics, and aggregate traffic statistics. Logs are not sold or shared with third parties, and they contain no personal information beyond what a browser sends to any website.

Feedback comments

Every page on this site loads a shared script (js/global-nav.js) that injects a feedback section at the bottom of the page. It exists so support questions and bug reports land where the operator will actually see them. It is the only feature on this site that stores something you write.

• What you provide — your amateur-radio callsign and a comment of up to 2000 characters. Before a comment is accepted, the callsign is checked against the public Club Log callsign database; only verified callsigns can post. Your callsign and comment are then displayed publicly on the page they were posted to.
• What is stored — callsign, comment text, the page URL, and a timestamp, in a server-side SQLite database on www.vlsc.net. That is the minimum needed to show the conversation.
• IP address — the server sees your IP address, as it does for any web request, and uses it only for rate limiting (a few comments per hour per IP, and per callsign per day) and abuse prevention. It is not displayed, not part of the public record, and not shared.
• Why — support. Comments are how users reach the operator, and how answers get written back.
• Retention — comments are kept until the operator deletes them; there is no fixed expiry and no automated deletion. To have a comment of yours removed, email contact@vlsc.net.
• No tracking — the feedback widget sets no cookies and runs no analytics of its own.

Analytics — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-JQLSKV1MCT) to understand which pages and which projects are actually read. The script loads from googletagmanager.com, sets first-party cookies on this domain — principally _ga and _ga_*, with the lifetimes Google specifies by default — and sends a page-view record to Google: the page URL, the referring page, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your browser and device strings.

• Aggregate only — we read Analytics as aggregate statistics. We do not use it to identify you, and we cannot connect it to an account, because this site has no accounts.
• IP addresses — Google states that Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses; the address is used to derive approximate location and then discarded.
• Opting out — any content blocker that blocks googletagmanager.com (uBlock Origin, Brave Shields, Privacy Badger, …) stops it completely, and this site works identically with Analytics blocked. Google also offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
• Google's Privacy Policy — policies.google.com/privacy.

Third-party advertising — Google AdSense

This site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar storage technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

• DoubleClick DART cookie — Google uses the DoubleClick cookie (and similar identifiers) to serve relevant ads and to measure ad performance.
• Personalized advertising — Google may use collected data to serve personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings.
• How Google uses data — you can read how Google uses data when you use sites that use AdSense at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Google's Privacy Policy — policies.google.com/privacy.

Other third-party services

This site loads the following third-party resources, which may see your IP address as part of normal web requests:

• Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com) — for the Inter and JetBrains Mono typefaces.
• Font Awesome (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) — for icons.
• GitHub (github.com) — links to project repositories; we do not load GitHub scripts on our pages.

Live demos

Some pages link to live radio demos hosted on radio.vlsc.net. If you open one, you will be using the demo server directly; it may record standard connection logs like any web service. Closing the demo does not leave anything behind on this site.
